Does FTMO 2-Step Standard ($100K) allow news trading in the evaluation and on the funded account?
Yes during the evaluation; on the funded account, only with limits. FTMO places no news restriction on this account's two evaluation phases, although opening trades to profit from price gaps around scheduled major news is a forbidden practice in every stage. On the funded FTMO Account, no trade on an instrument a selected news release affects may be opened or closed from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after the release, and no pending order, stop-loss or take-profit may fill in that window. Positions opened earlier may be held through it.

Stage by stage
- Evaluation (the FTMO Challenge, then the Verification): no news restriction. Gap trading around scheduled major news is forbidden here as in every stage (the account's news rule by stage, with its source).
- Funded FTMO Account: from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after a selected release, no opening or closing trades on the instruments it affects, and no pending order, stop-loss or take-profit may execute. A position opened earlier may stay open, but a stop-loss or take-profit triggered in the window is a breach, and a breach may end the FTMO Account.
This is the Standard account type. FTMO's Swing type is a different option that we do not cover, so nothing here applies to it.
An illustration
Take a restricted release at 14:30, chosen only for illustration. On the funded account, opening or closing a trade on an affected instrument between 14:28 and 14:32 falls inside the window, and so does a take-profit that would fill at 14:31 on a position opened at 14:00. During the evaluation the same trades are not restricted by the news rule.
What is not established
The rule as we verified it does not list which releases count as selected or which instruments each one affects. FTMO's news FAQ, listed under Sources, is the page to read for those details before trading the funded account around news.
Weekend and overnight holding on the funded Standard account is a separate rule: compare holding rules across accounts.
The evidence
| Rule | What the terms say | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| News trading | No news restriction during the evaluation (the FTMO Challenge and the Verification). On the funded FTMO Account, trades on the instruments a selected news release affects cannot be opened or closed, and pending orders such as a stop-loss or take-profit cannot execute, from 2 minutes before to 2 minutes after the release. Positions opened more than 2 minutes before may be held, but a stop-loss or take-profit triggered in that window is a breach, and a breach may end the FTMO Account. | 2 October 2026 |
